A sampling of fresh
fruit will be included in our CSA shares during our
2012 season. Depending on seasonal
availability, we anticipate fruit being in at least
75% of our weekly share deliveries throughout the season.
With the exception of our stone fruits, all berries are grown naturally without
pesticides or herbicides.
Included in our 2012 shares will be:
STRAWBERRIES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our strawberry harvest begins in early June and typically lasts about 3 weeks.

CHERRIES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We include sweet cherries in our fruit shares. Our cherries are a cross between a Bing and a Van - two sweet red varieties. The harvest period is extremely short and it is definitely a balancing act to pick at the peak of sweetness before the birds clean out our crop! This is one of the few CSA crops we have found impossible to grow and harvest without using a pesticide and herbicide. These cherries are highly susceptible to both fungus and insects - partly due to our cooler, damp growing seasons. Be sure to rinse these cherries thoroughly before eating - they are well worth the trouble! Picked in July.

RED RASPBERRIES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In response to our CSA member surveys, we have planted an additional 750' of red raspberry bushes in several varieties! While some varieties of red raspberries are ready in early summer, we trim our bushes for a significant late summer crop starting in mid August and continuing until a hard frost!

BLUEBERRIES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our blueberry patch is still young, but producing more each season. We have a variety of lowbush and highbush plants to help extend the season. Typically we pick blueberries for 3 - 4 weeks starting in late July .

BLACKBERRIES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are fortunate to have over 2 acres of blackberries on the farm! These berries are typically listed on "Top 10" lists for SUPERFOODS as they are rich in
antioxidants, phytonutrients, low in calories, and high in water and fiber to help control blood sugar and keep you full longer. Our blackberry harvest typically begins in early August and lasts for 2 - 3 weeks.

PLUMS & PEACHES:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a very young orchard with several varieties maturing in July/August and will include a sampling of these stone fruits in our 2012 shares. Peaches and plums are also sprayed and need to be washed thoroughly prior to eating.
